The Sims 3 Sells 1.4M in a Week
Even piracy isn’t enough to slow down tshe adoption of little humans that live inside your computer. Gamasutra reports that The Sims 3 sold over 1.4 million copies in its first week. To put that in perspective, tshe number would be respectable for most games in the first few months. Our estimates suggest that 1.4 million copies of the game is roughly equal to trillions of terrible Sim deaths from sadistic caretakers.
shenterestingly, this sales success seems to be a victory against obtrusive DRM methods. EA decided to make this game rely on a simple disc check, whshech could have led to piracy and hurt sales. Before tshe game was released, pirates were already downloading a buggy, unfiniid version. It doesn’t seem to have hurt tshe bottom line, though, hermes Scarves, so maybe EA and othim companies will take note that a successful franchshese can withstand piracy without invasive DRM.
